Psoriasis results from inflammation in the skin and sometimes joints. It manifests as a red, scaly, thick rash. It can be localized to small areas like elbows or scalp or widespread affecting the whole body. Psoriasis has been associated with the metabolic syndrome including diabetes, high cholesterol, and obesity. Additionally, psoriasis can cause a debilitating arthritis when it involves the joints.

Eczema is also known as Atopic Dermatitis and results from a disruption to the skin barrier and overactive inflammation. Patients with eczema have itchy dry skin and rashes.
